Take Control of Your Credit

Your credit can affect a lot more than whether you can buy a home. And when you don’t understand what’s showing on your reports or what’s affecting your scores, it can be hard to know what to work on first.

That’s where we start.

We’ll look at where your credit stands, talk through what you’re seeing, and identify the areas that may need attention. From there, we can create a plan that makes sense for your situation and your goals.

You don’t have to be preparing to buy a home to work on your credit. Sometimes the goal is simply to understand it, clean up what needs attention, and build healthier habits going forward.

Understanding Your Credit

Before we start talking about what to change, I want you to understand what’s actually on your credit reports.

We’ll look at the accounts being reported, balances, payment history, collections or other negative information, and anything that may be inaccurate or unfamiliar to you.

I don’t want you making random changes because somebody online said it would raise your score. I want you to understand what you’re looking at, why it matters, and what makes sense to address first.

What Can Affect Your Credit

There isn’t usually one single thing controlling your credit. Several areas can work together, which is why we need to look at the full picture.

Payment History

Paying your accounts as agreed matters. If there have been late payments or accounts that have fallen behind, we’ll look at what’s being reported and what needs your attention.

Length of Credit History

Older accounts can be an important part of your credit history, so I don’t want you closing accounts or making changes without understanding how they may affect the bigger picture.

Credit Mix

Your credit report may include different types of accounts. The goal is not to open accounts just to create a certain “mix,” but to understand how the accounts you already have fit into your overall credit picture.

Credit Utilization

If your credit cards are carrying high balances compared with their limits, that may be affecting your cw accounts or haredit profile. We’ll look at the balances and talk about realistic ways to bring them down.

New Credit

Opening several neving multiple applications in a short period can affect your credit. We’ll talk about when applying for new credit makes sense and when it may be better to wait.

Your Credit Action Plan

Once we understand what’s on your reports, we can stop guessing and start putting together a plan.

Your plan may include:

Review & Correct

Look for information that appears inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unfamiliar and determine what needs to be investigated or disputed.

Reduce Balances

Identify balances that may need attention and create a realistic strategy for paying them down.

Strengthen Payment Habits

Make keeping current accounts current a priority and create systems that make on-time payments easier to manage.

Build Positive Credit

If your credit profile needs additional positive history, we can talk about appropriate options without opening accounts you don’t need.

Know What to Avoid

Sometimes what you don’t do matters too. We’ll talk about things like unnecessary applications, large purchases, closing accounts without understanding the impact, and making decisions based on quick-fix advice.

Track Your Progress

Credit improvement takes time. We’ll keep an eye on what’s changing and adjust the plan when needed instead of expecting everything to happen overnight.

What My Credit Support Includes

My role is not just to hand you a list of things to do and send you on your way. I want you to understand your credit well enough to make better decisions long after we finish working together.

Depending on your situation, our work may include:

Credit Report Review

We’ll go through your reports so you understand what is being reported and what may need attention.

Identify Areas of Concern

We’ll look at negative information, high balances, payment history, and anything that appears inaccurate or unfamiliar.

Balance & Utilization Review

We’ll look at revolving balances and talk about where paying things down may need to fit into your plan.

Payment History Review

We’ll identify accounts that are current, accounts that may be behind, and what needs to become a priority.

Personalized Action Plan

You’ll know what to work on first, what can wait, and what steps make sense for your situation.

Credit Education & Guidance

I’m going to explain the why behind what we’re doing. My goal is for you to become more confident managing your credit—not dependent on someone else to understand it for you.
